On July 22nd, Roots of Change (ROC) had the pleasure of joining the Los Angeles Food Policy Task Force to present their report "Good Food for All Agenda: Creating a New Regional Food System for Los Angeles" to Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
"We are thrilled to see that the work of ROC-supported Los Angeles Urban-Rural Roundtable and Los Angeles Food Policy Task Force has generated a clear and bold policy recommendation for the State of California's largest city," said ROC President, Michael Dimock. "Based on his enthusiastic and engaged dialogue, we anticipate that these recommendations will be fully embraced by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa."
ROC is proud to have brought 70+ representatives from the Los Angeles foodshed as far south as San Diego and as far north as Monterey County to the table. This process showed that people from farms, distribution, retail businesses, school districts, social justice, health and environmental NGOs and government can find much common ground.
"With Los Angeles and San Francisco now leading the charge, we believe all of the state's major metropolitan areas will join the movement to improve access to healthy, safe, equitable and ecologically sound food. We feel we speak for the entire ROC Network when we say WELL DONE LOS ANGELES!" said Dimock.
Mayor Villaraigosa has been invited to join us at the Taste of the Los Angeles Foodshed reception that will kick-off the ROC Network Summit: Policy in Service in Innovation. Stay tuned for more information on the summit and details on how you can join us in LA for the reception the night of October 6th. Follow these links to:

The Los Angeles Urban-Rural Roundtables Report to the LA Food Policy Task Force Since the participants in the LA Urban Rural Roundtable represented such a large cross-section of Southern California, we have also drafted a version of the report that can be shared with local leaders throughout the region including: mayors, city councils, boards of supervisors, county ag commissioners, planning departments, school districts, and other local representatives. Please feel free to use this report when you work with your local representatives to build a local foodshed.
